Bethany Lutheran College, founded in 1927, is owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Bethany is a private, residential, liberal arts college committed to the teachings of the Bible as set forth in the Lutheran Confessions. The college offers a challenging, student-centered approach to education that fosters spiritual development, intellectual and creative growth, self-understanding and responsible citizenship. Bethany Lutheran College students enhance their collegiate experience through the study abroad program. In recent years, students have studied in Australia, Austria, England, Greece, Spain, Italy, China and Ecuador. With assistance from the study abroad office, students enjoy the flexibility of Bethany's program because the college doesn't limit their options of international destinations.

Leadership and service organizations including Student Senate, World Club, Paul Ylvisaker Center, Scholastic Leadership Society, Student Leadership Institute and Multi-Ethnic Center; music ensembles, theatre, speech and debate, Lambda Pi Eta, Pi Kappa Delta, Scroll (newspaper), Fidelis (yearbook), literary magazine, Channel 3 News Team, Charter "Main Street" Television Broadcasts, academic clubs, intramural and varsity sports.

College services and facilities

On-campus housing: Edgewood Place features apartment-style housing for three to six women per unit. Anderson Hall houses two to four women per room. Teigen and Gullixson Halls accommodate two men per room and include several apartments for upperclassmen or married students. Larson Hall consists of apartments. Students are required to live on campus for their first two years, unless living with parents or married.

Fitness/recreation facilities: Bethany offers a weight room, fitness center, indoor walking/running track, racquetball courts and two gymnasiums.

Technology: Over 95% of the campus features wireless Internet technology. All residential hall rooms are also wired for computers/internet. There are three computer labs with a student-computer ratio of 6:1.

Internships: Part-time and full-time internships that are closely related to the student's specific career path are required for some majors. Internship opportunities are coordinated through an internship and placement office.

Career services: A career counseling office assists students in making career choices. A placement office offers students information on job openings and interviews open to college students.

Counseling and guidance services: A variety of professional counseling services are available to Bethany students to assist in career, personal, and spiritual matters.

Scholastic aptitude test: 3% of first-year students submitted the SAT as part of their applications.

American college test: 97% of first-year students presented the ACT as part of their applications. The average ACT composite is 23.

High school rank: 93% of new entering students reported their high school class rank. Of those reporting, 11% were in the top tenth of their class; 32% were in the top quarter of their class; and, 65% were in the top half of their class.

Admissions tests required: ACT or SAT I. ACT writing component is recommended but not required.

High school preparation: A college preparatory curriculum is recommended, including: four years of English, three years of math and science, two years of history, two years of a foreign language and two years of social science.

Advanced placement credit: Advanced placement and credit may be accepted with scores of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement Examination or the higher-level exams of the International Baccalaureate.

Transfer process (deadlines and materials): Students must submit an application and transcripts from previous colleges. July 1 deadline for fall enrollment; Dec. 10 deadline for spring enrollment.

Transfer criteria (credits, GPA): Bethany requires a 2.0 cumulative GPA for transfer students.
