Overview
Our graduate programs help students build the expertise they need to succeed — and lead — in education, businesses, nonprofits, the public sector, creative communities, and more. Here, you’ll find high-demand programs that provide the skills employers, schools and organizations seek.
Since 1854, Hamline has set the standard for excellence in education. Deeply rooted in justice, civic responsibility, and Methodist values, our liberal arts curriculum prepares students to think critically, develop a worldly perspective and become creative problem solvers for the future.
Hamline paved the way for progress as the first university in Minnesota to open its doors to women and create an inclusive classroom. Our first graduates, two trailblazing sisters, were also the first college graduates in the state. We welcome students of all backgrounds and encourage them to reach across boundaries of culture and class to learn, live and lead together.
Schools/departments
School of Business: One degree to spark a change. Every professor, class, and assignment in the School of Business will compel you to use your imagination to push the boundaries of traditional leadership and management in all sectors — public, private and nonprofit.
School of Education: Teaching to change the world. At Hamline, we train educators to be practitioners, researchers, and leader-advocates. We partner with you on your professional journey, whether you’re earning a first or additional teaching license, a certificate, a master’s or a doctorate. Our innovative curriculum prepares you to engage learners in different contexts and communities, with a rich understanding of the various systems that affect your practice. Graduate primed to shape a more equitable, sustainable world from your first day in the classroom.
Creative Writing programs: We want your story. No matter where you are in your writing career. As the only university in the United States with three fine arts programs in creative writing, Hamline has a long history of turning writers into published authors. Learn from faculty members that include recent Newbery Medal winners, a National Book Award finalist and more. Whether you’re a high school student spending the summer learning the ropes of a writing workshop or a graduate student looking to elevate your creative life, we’ll help you share your words with the world.
Legal Studies: Law isn't just for lawyers. Work that involves the legal system touches many professions beyond the immediate practice of law. In fact, every industry must comply with legal rules, regulations and laws — and those industries all need professionals adept at navigating that legal terrain. With Hamline's online Master in the Study of Law, you can combine the foundational training of an ABA-approved paralegal certificate with specific, in-depth study in a legal area of your choosing to give you a highly nuanced understanding of how the law and legal system impact your work.
